I read a book in ONE day!

IMG_0679

This has never happened to me! I’ve never sat down and read an entire book in 24 hours. Now granted this book was only 149 pages and pretty small in size but still I’m going to give myself a pat on the back here. I deserve some kind of book lovers prize or at the very least I can count myself in the book tube hall of fame for reading right?

The book was I’d Rather be Reading by Anne Bogel and I couldn’t put it down. I walked around the house with it, bumping into furniture and stepping on dreaded legos and cats. Every spare second I had I was picking it up, reading a chapter here and a few pages there. What surprised me the most was this book isn’t about what I usually like. It wasn’t about love and war or kingdoms and special powers, it was simply about books.

I read a book…about books and I loved every second of it. I found myself laughing out loud and nodding my head like I was talking to an old friend. I felt like I was understood for being the crazy book obsessed person I’ve become. I was reading about me, through the stories of someone I’ve never met.

I too grew up next to a library so I related to her experiences as a young reader. That library changed me, it made me the reader I am today. I went through phases of not reading (gasp) or only reading one or two books a year! But I still remember my young reader self being excited about the thought of checking out as many books as my hands could carry. Her stories brought back those memories for me. It rekindled that lost flame for the excitement of reading.

Recently I’ve made my way back to the reading world. This past year I’ve read more than I have in the past 10 years. Something just clicked and after reading Anne’s story I realized that love for reading has always been there. It just needed awakening.

This book was a delightful read. I really enjoyed every second of it all the way through to the acknowledgments (I think she would be proud of this). I highly  recommend this book, not just for a good head nodding or laugh but for your reader soul. I found the stories endearing, the book references fascinating (mainly because I hadn’t read most of them) and the short chapters sweet and easy to get through. I think this book would make a great gift to a reader friend and a great addition to your home library.

Romanov Book Cover Reveal

As a kid I loved Anastasia, the entire story had me captivated. When I heard Nadine Brandes was writing a retelling of Anastasia I knew I wanted to read it! The synopsis alone has me on the edge of my seat!

The history books say I died.

They don’t know the half of it.

Anastasia “Nastya” Romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in Siberia. It might be her family’s only salvation. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after them . . . and he’s hunted Romanov before.

Nastya’s only chances of survival are to either release the spell, and deal with the consequences, or enlist help from Zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average Bolshevik. Nastya’s never dabbled in magic before, but it doesn’t frighten her as much as her growing attraction for Zash. She likes him. She thinks he might even like her . . .

That is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad . . . and he’s on the other.

Welcome! I’m Glad you’re here!

Hi guys and welcome to my very first blog post for LovelyReaderGirl! I’ve always loved to read. When I was a kid we lived right next door to my local library and I went several times a week. I fell in love with the stories hidden inside the pages of the books on the shelf. It was a good time in my life. I fell head over heals in love with reading the summers we lived in that house.

Fast Forward to today and that love is still there, but it got pushed aside for many years. After I got married at 21 and we started a family at 24 I let my love for reading take a backseat. I continued to read but I didn’t devour books like I use to when I was young. The Kindle took the place of physical books and board books and homeschool curriculum reigned.

I got lost in the world of planners and journals and while I still love that side of my life I craved more. I craved less buying and more living. I craved the stories of my childhood. I craved books. And so my new story begins. The story of a LovelyreaderGirl who is rediscovering her journey through book land. Come with me! Let’s discover the world of books again together!
